SBA Positions for 2022-2023 Elections

The SBA and Honor Board Elections for 2022-2023

President

         The president of the SBA is the principal liaison between the administration and the student body. The SBA president is in charge of overseeing the executive committee and chair positions and corresponding with them directly to monitor the progress of events and deadlines. Additionally, although all of the members of the executive board vote on the chair selections, the president makes the final decision should consensus not be reached. Lastly, the president sets the dates and agendas for any SBA meetings and student-wide events that will be held throughout the school year.

Vice President

The Vice-President of the SBA represents the American Bar Association, oversees the student organizations, and handles money allotment. The Vice-President works closely with the Deans of the Law School to organize events such as the Student Org Fair and Leadership Meetings. The Vice-President sets and enforces deadlines for semester plans and semester assessments for the student organizations.

Secretary

           This position oversees all elections and newsletters, supervises the class representatives, and assists SBA President with related tasks (SBA Mentor/Mentee Program, Grad Fair, etc.). This position is also the liaison between students and the SBA, handles the SBA email account, and manages SBA social media accounts with the SBA Social Chair.

Class Representatives

           There are two 1L, 2L, 3L class representatives and one representative from each evening class per law school year. Class representatives represent the ideas of their class in SBA meetings. Additionally, class representatives will help plan, execute, and break down SBA events.

Honor Board Representative

           An Honor Board Representative represents their class by serving in an advisory capacity to the Deans. The position involves assisting Honor Board officers in the investigation of alleged Honor Code violations. The Honor Board is composed of three members of each day division class and one member of each evening division class. 

Cabinet Positions

           Cabinet positions are not voted on, but applied for.

Social Chair   

       The Social Chair works closely with the administration to plan various socials throughout the year, including Barrister’s Ball. Social chair will also assist the SBA Secretary with managing SBA social media accounts. Link to apply: https://forms.gle/tBfR7hbEK9MgoYoH6

Wellness Chair

Instructions to run for SBA or Honor Board positions:

  • Starting March 9, 2022, email sba@loyno.edu with the position you intend to run for as the subject line to request your petition. The last day to request a petition is March 14, 2022 at 5pm.
  • SBA Secretary will email you a link to an online petition. If you’re running for President, Vice President or Secretary, you must collect 50 e-signatures by March 16, 2022 at 5pm. If you are running for a class representative or honor board representative, you must collect 25 e-signatures by March 16, 2022 at 5pm. Signatures must be by Loyola Law students. The SBA Secretary will notify you once you have received required signatures.
  • Students running for SBA President, Vice President, or Secretary, and who have obtained a complete petition, must submit a video with a speech for the law school community that will be posted to the class Facebook accounts by March 17, 2022.
  • Campaigning (on Groupme, Facebook, etc.), including no campaigning in the library, may commence once you receive your petition. Campaigning should not begin prior. Please contact SBA for rules regarding in-person campaigning.
  • In the event of a tie, run-off elections will be held on March 30, 2022.
  • To appeal election results, a letter detailing the challenge must be submitted to sba@loyno.edu by March 28, 2022.
