Bio

Professor Courtney Turkington joined the Loyola faculty after practicing at Liskow & Lewis in New Orleans and clerking for the Honorable Carl J. Barbier of the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana. She graduated first in the Full-Day Division of her class at Loyola University New Orleans College of Law, where she served as Online Editor of the Loyola Law Review and competed on the National Moot Court Team. Upon graduation, she received the Louisiana State Bar Association Civil Code Award for the highest grade point average in civil law courses. In practice, Professor Turkington was recognized as a “Rising Star” by Louisiana Super Lawyers, a “Top Lawyer” by New Orleans Magazine, and “One to Watch” by Best Lawyers.

Professor Turkington teaches and writes in the areas of Louisiana civil law and assisted reproductive technology and rights. Her most recent article, Power Struggle: The Disproportionate Burden State Surrogacy Requirements Impose Upon Women, was publisd in the Winter 2025 issue of the William & Mary Journal of Race, Gender, and Social Justice. At Loyola, she teaches Obligations I & II, Successions & Donations, and other courses rooted in the Louisiana Civil Code. Her current research explores how Louisiana’s distinctive civil-law framework can illuminate national conversations about reproductive justice.
