MJ Hernandez

Milton "MJ" Hernandez primarily teaches and writes on Louisiana civil law and comparative law. Professor Hernandez's current research and scholarship focus on successions and donations law, family law, property law, and comparative law.

Professor Hernandez comes to Loyola from Mississippi College, where he taught courses including Comparative Law, Civil Law of Successions and Donations, Civil Law of Persons and Family, Louisiana Civil Procedure, and Conflict of Laws. He also served as the co-director of the Center for Civil Law Studies and coached the school’s National Moot Court Competition team. He received multiple awards at Mississippi College, including the 2025 Shirley Norwood Jones Collegiality Award and the 2024 Mississippi Defense Lawyers Association's Faculty Award.

He holds a J.D. and a Graduate Diploma in Comparative Law from LSU’s Paul M. Hebert Law Center, where he graduated magna cum laude, Order of the Coif, and served as Editor-in-Chief of the Louisiana Law Review.
