Bio
Christopher Kerrigan, J.D., M.Sc., is a staff attorney with the Medical Legal Partnership at Loyola University New Orleans College of Law’s Stuart H. Smith Law Clinic and Center for Social Justice, where he provides legal advocacy and direct representation to children and families facing civil legal issues that impact health, stability, and well-being.
Chris works closely with medical providers, social workers, and interdisciplinary teams to address legal needs related to housing instability, public benefits, family law, education, and other social determinants of health. His practice focuses particularly on housing advocacy, including eviction prevention, housing conditions, subsidized housing, and broader barriers to family stability.
Before joining Loyola, Chris worked at Southeast Louisiana Legal Services, where he represented low-income clients exclusively in housing matters. His practice focused on eviction defense, subsidized housing, habitability and unsafe housing conditions, administrative advocacy, and appellate litigation. He has developed substantial expertise in Louisiana housing law and is deeply committed to advancing systemic housing reform and expanding access to safe, stable housing.
Chris earned his J.D. from Loyola University New Orleans College of Law and holds an M.Sc. in political psychology from Queen’s University Belfast. His commitment to public service spans decades and includes early service in local government as a member of the Eureka City Council in Eureka, California, where he was first elected at age 20.
Chris brings a practical, client-centered approach to advocacy grounded in the belief that stable housing is fundamental to health, family stability, and long-term well-being.
